A 26-YEAR-OLD man, arrested in connection with the attempted kidnap of a nine-year-old girl, has been released without charge.

Police said they "eliminated the man from investigations" after he produced a "substantial alibi".

The nine-year-old girl was grabbed by a man, described as foreign, wearing a yellow shirt, black suit trousers and black trainers on Sunday June 19 at around 4.45pm.

The youngster was walking home from her friend's house, where she had spent the night, along Willows Lane in Deane, at the time of the attack.

Her mother said her daughter has been left "frightened to death" since it happened and was told by the man, who tried to put her in a car, that "she would have nightmares about him".

A similar incident, involving a 10-year-old boy, was reported on June 14.

The schoolboy was walking to school, along Red Lane in Breightmet, when a man jumped out of a bush and tried to grab him.

The police said they are not at this stage linking the attacks.

Investigations are still ongoing.
