UNEMPLOYED young people will get help to find work thanks to a special project run by Bolton Lads and Girls Club.

The club has been awarded a slice of a £75,000 grant to help jobless 16-19-year-olds in Bolton.

It was one of 15 voluntary groups in the country to have been recognised through Yorkshire Bank Spirit of the Community Awards for its work.

The club is known for inspiring young people, especially those from disadvantaged backgrounds, and help them to realise their potential and become happy, responsible and caring citizens.

The £5,000 it received will support 24 disadvantaged young people to develop their employability skills over a year.

Now in its fourth year, the awards programme aims to recognise charities and not for profit organisations for the invaluable contributions they make to their local communities.

Groups were invited to enter the awards programme under one of three categories; projects which help people to have a healthy relationship with money, projects which help people to improve their local environment and projects which help people into employment.

Karen Edwards OBE, CEO of Bolton Lads and Girls Club, said: "I am delighted that Bolton Lads and Girls Club has been selected as a recipient of one of the Yorkshire and Clydesdale Bank Foundation’s Spirit of the Community Awards."

Debbie Crosbie, Chief Operating Officer at Clydesdale and Yorkshire Banks and Chair of the Yorkshire and Clydesdale Bank Foundation, added: "Yorkshire Bank’s Spirit of the Community Awards aim to recognise and support the vital contribution that voluntary and charitable projects make to their local communities.

"This is our opportunity to say thank you to the incredible community groups across England for the inspiring work they undertake.

"All of the successful organisations are extremely deserving winners which have been recognised for their role in their local communities with these awards from Yorkshire Bank."
