ANDY Staveley put in a terrific run at the Horwich Festival of Racing BMAF 5k race, clocking an impressive time of 19 mins 19 secs.

He was one of seven Road Runners competing in the premier event, with Gwen Kinloch next home – 12th female finisher and taking second place in the F55 category in 20:30.

Other results: Simon Marland 21:11, Paul Christie 21:55, Anne Ferguson 22:53, Andy Warburton 24:26, Sue Blackman 29:44.

A total of 28 members contested the Open 5k event – almost half the field –and the club had 10 finishers in the top 30. Paula Pilling was first female runner home, ninth overall and first F40 in 20:01, a couple of places behind the first Burndener home, George Butler, whose time of 19:51 put him in seventh place overall and earned him second MU20 spot.

Laurence Keighley’s time of 19:53 saw him finish eighth overall and take third place in the V40 category. Lesley Fisher was second F50 in 21:19 and Katy Thompson was third F40 in 22:54.

Fourth place category spots went to Shirley Staveley in F50 with 23:20, Carolyn Barker in F40 with 23:37, Mark Butler in M50 with 22:05 and Dave Newman in M60 with a time of 24:09.

George Butler also contested the triathlon at the festival. His time of 58:20 made him seventh overall. Glen Kenyon was 10th in 1:00:34 and Ann Butler finished in a time of 1:17:59.

Emma Donaldson took on her first ultra event at Towneley Park, Burnley, in the Trailblazer 55 12-hour race. She put in a great effort to be seventh female finisher, managing 11 laps and clocking a total time of 9:04.17.

Craig Philpot tackled the Tour of Tameside – four tough, and very different, races over successive days.

They were the Cross Trail 10k, six-mile Copley Fell Race, the High Peak Half Marathon and Hyde seven-mile race. He came through all four in style.

Vicki Hamer was second lady home at the Edgworth Reservoir 10k in 50:18, closely followed by club-mate Kris Worsley in 51:06.

The Race the Train event sees runners aiming to complete an 11-mile trail route before a train from Bury Station.

Paul Duke was the first Burnden runner home, claiming third V40 in 1:20:36 – beating the train by a matter of seconds. Don Nichol was fourth V60 in 1:40:10, with Tony Foster (1:57:44) first V70. The club’s representation was completed by Steve Bate (1:30:56), Maria Parkinson (1:59:42) and Pete Whiteside (2:04:55).

Paul Duke led home the Burndeners at the Horwich Jubilee Five-Mile in 32:08.

Paula Pilling, Liz McLellan and Gwen Kinloch all claimed category wins. Paula was first F40 in 33:39, Liz top F45 in 33:44 and Gwen led the way in F55 in 34:44.

Their combined placings earned them the ladies’ team prize.
