A LORRY belonging to Bolton-based bread firm Warburtons crashed on the M6.

The three-vehicle collision happened on the northbound carriageway of the motorway, close to Junction 21 at Woolston, at about 10.10am on Sunday.

The lorry had skidded out of control across all four lanes and jack-knifed, with the cab smashing through the central reservation and ending up facing the wrong way.

All four lanes had to be closed by police to recover the bright orange vehicle.

It was reported Warburtons' 50-year-old driver was taken to Warrington Hospital although North West Ambulance Service said no patients were in fact transferred to hospital.

A statement the bakery firm said: "We can confirm that one of our vehicles was involved in the accident on the M6 yesterday morning.

"We are pleased to report that both drivers are fine.

"We will be supporting the police with their investigation into the cause of the accident."

Last month, a Warburtons lorry caught fire on the motorway.

Emergency services attended the scene to put out the blaze and make the area safe, between junctions 21 and 20 southbound of the M6 at Thelwall Viaduct.
