A MEMORIAL football fun day raised £1,000 for charity.

The event, which was held at Breightmet Football Club on June 12, was in memory of Ste Allen.

Mr Allen passed away in January of a heart attack, aged just 52.

Friends and family of Mr Allen organised the day, which included a match between Breightmet 11 select team and Rawson Rangers — Mr Allen's former team.

There was also a bouncy castle, raffle and auction on the day.

More than 150 people turned out to support the event, which was in aid of raising money for a defibrillator in Mr Allen’s memory.

Friend Austin Hurst said: “We had a fantastic turn out on the day and raised £800 and also got a donation of £200, which took us to our target of £1,000.

“We were all overwhelmed with the support and turnout from all Ste’s old team Rawson Rangers and the Breightmet team.

“Everything we had to raffle was sold and the game was played in fantastic spirit with a complete silent minute's silence before it.

“It was an emotional day but fantastic, with family and friends all doing their bit to help.

“We are hoping to make it an annual thing from now on.”
