ARSONISTS have targeted a primary school for the second time in a fortnight leaving heartbroken children in tears.

Mindless yobs set alight the rubber surface beneath the climbing frame with the fire spreading to the wooden climbing frame in the grounds of Bridgewater Primary School, Little Hulton, which children had helped pay for.

The latest attack on Sunday comes just two week after a garden shed was deliberately set on fire and spread to the school building damaging the sports hall.

Children were forced to stay at home following the first attack while the school was made safe.

Emma O'Reilly, headteacher, said: "Vandals have destroyed a wooden climbing frame which the school council raised funds to build three years ago. I have no idea what pleasure they get from depriving our children of a much loved piece of play equipment and reducing many of them to tears.

"I hope anyone with information about this senseless attack will pass information to the police so these people can be caught and face justice.

"But once again our school will bounce back.

"We will clean up, carry on and look for some way of replacing this much loved frame which has given our children so much pleasure over the years."

Now on Walkden Community Facebook Page, parents are teaming up to raise funds for the school to have the piece of play equipment repaired as quickly as possible "for our children".

Bridgewater Primary School is a Ofsted-rated good school.

Inspectors said children make high rates of progress adding: "Pupils are proud of their school. They get on very well together and are keen to learn. They feel safe and secure in the highly supportive environment. They attend regularly and most participate well in their lessons."
