A BOY suffered a head injury after being hit by a car.
The 12-year-old was struck by a black Vauxhall Astra in Birch Road, Walkden, at around 8.15am, according to police.
It happened between the junctions of Hawthorn Avenue and Laburnum Road, outside the former Walkden High School site that is now the building site where Barratt Homes' Scholars Green housing estate will go.
The victim suffered serious head injuries and was taken to Royal Manchester Children's Hospital as a major trauma patient with multiple injuries.
A police spokesman said the injury is not thought to be life-threatening.
Birch Road was closed off and the Astra was taken to Laburnum Road where forensic officers were examining and photographing the vehicle, which had a smashed window.
There have been no arrests and the police do not consider at this stage an offence was committed.
A worker in a shop in nearby Rydal Crescent said: "We have been telling the school that road is dangerous since they moved."
