MOTORISTS are reminded three months of overnight closures on St Peter’s Way begin tomorrow.

From Monday, a £7 million scheme to resurface the key commuter route will begin.

The whole length of the road in both directions — from the Kearsley roundabout to Topp Way — is being improved.

To facilitate this the road will be closed daily from 7pm until 6am, from Monday until September 30.

Motorists will need to use alternative routes during these times, which will be signposted. The road will be open as usual at all other times.

Council chiefs said they have decided to carry out the work overnight in an effort to minimise disruption and keep traffic moving.

Advanced warning notice boards have now been installed to give motorists as much notice as possible.

The £7.3 million improvement project is being largely funded by a £5.8 million government grant, which was awarded to the council after a successful bid last year.
