THE premiere of a sci-fi film shot in Bolton will take place this weekend.

Charlie and Me, written and directed by Lee Bolton, will receive the red carpet treatment.

Mr Bolton, aged 44, who lives in Farnworth, filmed the 29-minute short at his studios in Breightmet.

It will be shown alongside other films from new and emerging writers and directors.

He said: "We had a test screening in the old Cornerhouse in Manchester where it went down really well.

"Some of the cast and crew were there, and it was the first time they had seen it."

Mr Bolton, who owns Elbery Studio added: "Out of the all the projects I have worked on, this was the most personal.

"The film stars local people and was produced in Bolton."

He added: "This showcases the local talent."

As part of the film, Mr Bolton created a spaceship in the studio and like in the classic film Star Wars, created sets from what he could find to keeps costs low.

The film follows the "pilot", a mother taken from her family who is drafted in to the elite core to protect the Earth in 2017.

As well as appearing as a writer and director at the film showings, he also appears an actor alongside Doctor Who star Colin Baker in The Last Man on Earth, and has been involved with Outside by writer Julie Habib.

Professional actors and playwrights are expected to be at the screening at 3MT inside Afflecks Palace in Manchester.

Mr Bolton, who is currently working on commercial projects have previously worked with Pepsi, said: "It will be a networking event to show what we are doing in Bolton and Manchester and that people don't have to go to London."
