A PUB landlord has stressed that a gang of men alleged to have beaten up a woman in Great Lever had not been in his venue on the night of the attack.
The Bolton News reported on Saturday that 33-year-old Helen Greaves had been attacked by a group of up to 10 men as she was returning from Bolton town centre in the early hours of the morning.
In the report, it stated that the gang had been chanting outside the Little John Pub in Lever Street before Ms Greaves was attacked.
Pub boss Paul Chambers said that the report has led to him having his “worst ever” weekend of business and has been inundated with calls from concerned locals.
He said: “We were shut at the time and I can categorically say that the gang involved had not been inside my pub.
“I feel really sorry for the girl and her family for what has happened but my customers are upset too because they feel they are being tarred with the same brush as this gang, when it was nothing to do with them.”
He added: “I have lost a lot of money because of this and would like to reassure customers that it had nothing to do with the pub and that we are open for business as usual.”
Mr Chambers also said that police had not returned to the pub to ask to see any CCTV of the incident.
Police are still investigating the attack and anyone with information should contact the force on 101.
