A SELFLESS youngster who collects clothes and food for the homeless has been given £100 to donate to charity.

Billy Higham, aged nine, has been volunteering for Hope4homeless since April after becoming upset in a thunderstorm at the thought of the homeless being cold and wet.

The St John The Evangelist school pupil created posters which he distributed at school and wrote a letter to his head teacher asking parents to donate items, which he then collects and gives to the charity every two weeks.

On his most recent visit, in return for his hard work, the charity gave him £100 to donate to Phabkids— a charity that his mum, Angela, is raising money for in preparation for running the London Marathon next year with her two friends, Kirsten and Scott Ward.

Billy said: "I like to collect for the homeless because if there's a storm or its cold I can help them by donating warm jackets and rain coats to keep them warm and safe. It makes me feel good that I am helping them and sad because people live on the street.

"But I couldn't believe it when hope4homless donated £100 to my mums charity for Phabkids. I feel so proud of her and Scott and Kirsten for running the London marathon."

Mrs Higham, has so far raised £500 of her £5,000 target for Phabkids—a charity that supports children and adults with and without disabilities.

Mrs Higham, of Hill Cot Road, in Astley Bridge, said: “Myself and Billy's dad are extremely proud of Billy and the work he does to help the homeless.

“He has put his heart and soul into it making posters and also writing a letter to his head teacher to ask parents to collect.

“In the summer holidays he wants to volunteer and help out in the shop and he really likes to meet the people that he helps.”

A spokesman for Hope4homeless said: “Billy is an amazing young man and we are blessed and proud to have him on the team.”
