A BOLTON woman left paralysed after suffering a spinal stroke has been given a garden makeover by TV star Alan Titchmarsh.

Caroline Hall, of Crown Lane, Horwich, featured on ITV show Love Your Garden this week after Alan and his team came to transform the space behind her home.

The programme makers had heard about Ms Hall's problems, which occurred after she bent down at work two years ago and burst nerves in her spinal cord.

The animal lover initially thought she had a ‘crick in her neck’ or had pulled a muscle, but was soon after left fearing for her life and, after partially recovering, is now forced to use a mobility scooter or sticks to get around.

TV star Alan was concerned that the condition has meant that the 35-year-old was unable to continue her love of gardening and her plot of land was reverting to wasteland.

The programme showed former Gardeners World and Ground Force star Alan and his team pack Ms Hall off for a few days as they embarked on the challenge of transforming her garden into something special that met her needs — wheelchair friendly and appropriate for her two dogs to use.

During the renovation, the team also chose to shop locally, picking up some blue garden pots from the Heaton Fold Garden Centre in Overdale Drive.

Alan and his team designed the garden to be divided into different sections, including a dog play area, a vegetable garden, a special summer house and an entertaining and seating area inspired by Ms Hall's Scottish roots.

After a few days of hard work, Ms Hall returned home to admire her new back garden and was understandably overwhelmed by the results.

Speaking to host Alan, she said: "It is amazing, I just don't think this is my garden, it is absolutely beautiful."

"It is amazing to be able to grow my own fruit and vegetables and to be able to come back in the garden with my dogs."
