A BOLTON plumber is hoping that local votes are in the pipeline to help him scoop a national title.

Rick Lane, from Bain Plumbing Services, is one of 15 entrants shortlisted in the UK Plumber of the Year competition. And now he wants people across the borough to assist by voting for him.

Rick, aged 29, from Horwich and a former pupil of Rivington and Blackrod High School pupil, completed a three-years plumbing course at Wigan and Leigh College.

He qualified in 2006 and works for the well-known family business based on the Boundary Industrial Estate in Millfield Road.

Selena Bain from the firm nominated Rick for the national title, paying tribute to his cheerful manner, his quality of work and attention to detail.

“Richard has a real passion for his trade, even though he is very modest about his skills,” she explained.

“His enthusiasm shows in every task he undertakes and he particularly enjoys the challenge of problem-solving.”

The job cited in the nomination was installing a streamlined modern bathroom in a building with unusual architectural features.

As Mrs Bain stated: “This particular job needed a genuine level of engagement with the client, a real understanding of what was wanted as well as what was possible, and the likely result.”

Rick is “absolutely thrilled” to be shortlisted, and is asking local people to vote for him if they can.

Voting is now open until 4pm on Sunday, August 14.
