FOLLOWING two recent defeats and a close shave, Bolton Golf Association League B leaders Hindley bounced back with a significant 7½-½ home win against lowly Breightmet last Tuesday evening.

It now seems certain that Hindley will make the league finals with only one match outstanding.

Second-place Dunscar took home advantage against Regent Park last week with a comfortable 6-2 victory to add to their precious league points.

Dunscar also look favourites to reach the finals, albeit with two home matches outstanding against Breightmet and Bolton to complete their season.

However, Bolton has three outstanding matches against Regent Park (away) and both Dunscar and Hart Common at home. But the Lostock team will need to capture significant points if they are to frustrate Dunscar from reaching their semi-final goal.

League A offers a number of alternatives for the semi-finalists with five clubs currently within reach of the finals.

Deane remain in top spot despite losing 4½-3½ last week away against Great Lever, who remain in second place. Meanwhile, Turton overturned Chorley at home with a narrow 4½-3½ scoreline and they are just 3½ points behind Great Lever.

Deane play Turton tonight at home which is likely to be a tight affair. Turton also have an away match against Great Lever next week which may determine who gets a semi-final place.

Old Links have a difficult finale to their season with a visit to Westhoughton followed by two home matches against Great Lever and Chorley.

Old Links captain, Duncan Simm, said: “We have not had the best of seasons this year and we need to win all three of our remaining matches if we are to stand a chance of reaching the finals.”
