A FAMILY is thanking a kind-hearted security guard for helping them out of a “sticky situation”.

Mum Hayley Blackburn, brother-in-law Christopher Baines and grandmother Deborah Lowe were faced with every parent’s nightmare on a trip home from Asda in Middlebrook, last week.

Miss Blackburn’s daughter, six-month-old Rosalia Ellise, needed her nappy changing and began crying – however the family had no supplies.

Security guard Alex Evans, on duty, approached the family and went and bought them wipes and nappies, out of his own pocket, from the supermarket.

Mr Baines, aged 27, from Montserrat Road, said: “The baby started crying and we had no nappies or wipes to change her. We managed to use some blue roll to clean her up, but she was still crying.

“We had parked up the car with the hazards on and a security guard came over. I thought we were going to get in trouble for stopping, but he asked ‘were we okay?’ and ‘what was wrong?’”

Despite the family’s pleas to pay the security guard for the full packet of nappies and wipes, he would not take the money.

Mr Baines added: “We were so grateful that someone would do that for someone they didn’t even know. We just want to give him the recognition he deserves for what he did.

“Rosalie was all smiles after we could change her properly and gave the security guard one of her biggest smiles.”

Mr Baines put a Facebook post to thank the security guard and has had almost 6,000 “likes” and more than 1,000 “shares”.

A spokesman for Middlebrook Retail and Leisure Park said: “We thank Christopher for sharing this fabulous story with us. The security guard that helped was Alex Evans and he has been a longstanding member of the team. We will pass on his thanks.”
