IN the Bolton News (July 20) you print a report on how the two Bolton Labour MPs reacted to the recent debate and voted in the House of Commons on the renewal of Trident.

Yasmin Quereshi said that she abstained because she thought that the government was merely trying to exploit the differences in the Labour Party.

Sorry Yasmin, even if what you say is true, it was nonetheless a vote for real authorising the renewal of Trident and to abstain, when you might have voted against, I hope, is just playing silly games yourself.

David Crausby, who was unable to attend the debate for personal reasons, nonetheless informs us that he would have voted for the renewal of Trident.

He also says that he believes in multilateral disarmament and criticises Jeremy Corbyn because he would not press the button, saying 'that's the last thing (he) should say because then it isn't a deterrent at all'.

Sorry David, but one or other or all of the members of the Security Council are consistently blocking any moves whatsoever towards multilateral disarmament .

Just recently the UN General Assembly was trying to get discussions on multilateral disarmament going — true to form the British government boycotted those discussions. An MP really should know this.

And sorry again David, surely you can understand that there are many people like Jeremy Corbyn who reject the whole idea of so-called deterrence and refuse to contemplate massacring their fellow men, women and children (not to mention the sick and the old) which pressing the button inevitably entails.

It would be an act of terrorism far in excess of what Isis at its very worst could achieve. So does this mean, David, that you are not against terrorism so long as we are the terrorists? Please explain.
