UNIVERSITY accountancy students took part in a masterclass — and found their skills added up to a first place position.

The Bolton Business School students excelled in the challenge led by leading firm PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC).

Students from North West colleges and universities took part in the recent day-long event of workshops and knowledge tests which had the undergraduates focus on three separate challenges.

International tax, deals and acquisitions, and audit and assurance were the three themes for the students to tackle in the workshop challenges.

Representing Bolton Business School at the University of Bolton were Stella Unsworth, Nicola Basnett, Keely Green and Carolyn Franklin who are first and second-year students on the BA (Hons) Accountancy programme.

Nicola, of Little Lever, studies fulltime and works part-time as a Customer Care Specialist for Eon.

She said: “The challenges were pretty tricky, we were really pleased to do so well. Spending a day with PwC was really interesting; you got a real insight into what it would be like working there. Making those contacts now can be really useful for the future.”

Senior Accountancy lecturer, Gill Baker, said she was extremely proud of the students who took part.

She said: “This is the first time we have taken part so we’re thrilled the students have done so well.

“The four students have achieved outstanding results in their studies to date at the University so I was confident that they would do well. They have a promising career ahead of them.”
