A DRAMATIC head-on crash in Radcliffe has left several people injured.

Six people were involved in the smash between an Audi A3 and a Toyota Hilux in Bolton Road this afternoon.

Emergency services were called to the scene at around 12.20pm, with police confirming that none of the people in either car suffered life-threatening injuries.

One of the cars was said to be travelling "at speed" down the 30mph road.

Neil Unsworth, watch manager at Farnworth fire station, said that six people were taken to hospital with various injuries, including a 28-year-old man with a suspected broken pelvis. He was taken by air ambulance to Wythenshawe Hospital.

A North West Ambulance Service spokesman said that one patient was taken to Manchester Royal Infirmary with "major trauma", as well as two others who were suffering from spinal pains.

A 37-year-old woman with chest pains was taken to Salford Royal Hospital.

Mr Unsworth said: "We attended along with the police and ambulance service, but nobody was trapped and there was no fire.

"There were six casualties, each of which have been taken to hospital with various injuries, mainly whiplash and minor head injuries. It looks like one has suffered a broken pelvis.

"It was a head-on crash and one of the cars was travelling at speed."

A GMP spokesman added that some of those involved were left with broken bones. They added: "The road has now been cleared, both cars have been recovered and the council are in attendance."

The road has been closed between the junctions with Wordsworth Avenue and Harper Fold Road.
