TWO cars crashed into garden walls in separate incidents within half a day of one another.

The first happened off Chorley Old Road and the second in Tonge Moor when an out-of-control green Peugeot 206 demolished boundary fixtures in Thicketford Road at 3am yesterday.

The convertible mounted the pavement and collided with the fence of one house and the corner of a front garden brick wall of the neighbouring property, with the masonry collapsing with the force of the impact onto an orange Ford Focus parked on the drive.

The Peugeot rebounded off and came to a stop in the middle of the street suffering substantial damage.

The owner of the Ford, who did not wish to be identified, said: “I was asleep and I just heard a big bang and the house shook.

“The Peugeot had come from Winchester Way and hit next door’s fence and then hit the corner post of our wall and the wall fell onto our car.

“Our car’s got cosmetic damage: dents and paint damage to the driver’s side.

“The lads who were in the Peugeot got out and ran off along Thicketford Road towards Tonge Moor Road. They didn’t look injured.”

Police continue to search for the culprits and are appealing for anyone with information to come forward.

The Ford owner: “It’s awful but it’s not a surprise.

“We see lots of accidents but it doesn’t directly affect us usually and it’s usually the other side of Crompton Way.

“They need to put a speed camera or red light camera at the traffic lights at the junction of Crompton Way and Thicketford Road.

“But we’re above all annoyed as we have to foot the repairs bill because the driver was uninsured.”

In the earlier crash a white Honda CR-V and a red van collided at the junction of Victory Street and Musgrave Road, Bolton, at 3.45pm on Monday.

The Honda deflected into the corner of an end-of-terrace house and the low brick garden wall in front of the same property.

A spokeswoman for North West Ambulance Service said: “An ambulance was sent to the scene but did not take anyone to hospital.

“A male and a female were involved in the collision.

“The male had a minor injury and was checked over and took himself from the scene.”

The road was blocked for a period as the emergency services dealt with the aftermath.

A GMP spokesman confirmed officers responded to reports to a 4x4 colliding with the wall of a house.

He said no arrests had been made and the incident is not being investigated as a crime.
