A DRIVER is appealing for witnesses to come forward after he was involved in a head-on crash.

The collision happened at 6pm on Wednesday in Sheep House Lane, Belmont.

Phillip Mosscrop, aged 23, said he was driving his BMW 1 series home from work, when the crash happened.

He said: “I had to overtake a cyclist and then was back on my side of the road and I looked and saw two cars approaching me at speed.

“I had to use my brakes because they were coming at me on my side of the road and then one of them crashed into me head-on.”

Mr Mosscrop, who lives in Wigan, claims the passengers in the car —a red Hyundai Coupe — then got out and fled in the car that had been travelling behind it.

Mr Mosscrop was helped at the scene by a passing motorist and the cyclist who he had earlier overtaken. The 23-year-old added: “I just remember a big flash of light, a big bang and all the air bags going off.

“I keep re-living just seeing the cars coming at me.”

Mr Mosscrop was taken to Royal Bolton Hospital with neck and back pain but was released later that day.

His car is a write-off.

He added: “It’s devastating for a young person who has just started earning money in a job after university to have this happen.

“I am going to be a lot out of pocket for this.

“And to the passengers in the car to just drive off, they didn’t know how injured I was or even if I was alive.

“I am lucky that I was in my BMW and not still driving my old Corsa because I think I would have come off a lot worse.

“I just want people to come forward that might recognise the car and help police with their investigations.”

A police investigation is currently on-going.

Anyone with information should call police on 101, or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
