THE battle to help a poorly Bolton youngster carries on as well-wishers continue to raise thousands.

Crowds enjoying a weekend of fun and games have managed to raise more than £2,000 to help Kyle Buckley battle cancer.

The 11-year-old from Deane was diagnosed with Rhabdomyosarcoma —a rare muscle cancer—in 2014.

Despite celebrating getting the all clear in the New Year, three months later the cancer resurfaced.

Since then a series of fundraisers have been taking place to help raise money towards his treatment.

At the weekend two different events were held in his name with Kyle attending the Saturday fun with his mum Carol.

She said: "It's really lovely to see the support, it's a boost.

"We are really pleased with how the events went, it was a good turn out despite the weather!"

A fun day was held at the Brooklyn hotel in Green Lane, Great Lever, on Saturday, with a visit from Star Wars iconic and menacing Storm Troopers - who played nice on the day and cosied up for a picture with Kyle.

The following day Bolton Cricket Club played host to a rounders match with raffle and tombola.

Both events raised more than £1,000 each for the Make Kyle Smile campaign.

The money will go towards funding potential trial treatments for Kyle in either London or America.

The youngster is currently undergoing his fifth round of chemotherapy and faces an intensive course of radiotherapy in October.

Mrs Buckley said: "I would like to thank everyone for their kindness especially Gee and John Bradford, landlord and landlady of the Brooklyn, for making the day possible.

"The fundraising has been going really well, everyone in Bolton has been fantastic and really got involved.

"The radiotherapy will be right near his kidney and he risks losing a kidney from the treatment, it's not nice.

"We've decided to try one last round to see if he gets any better and after will decide on the best trail.

"He is doing really well and doctors say he has had a good response but we don't know who long it will last."

A gofundme page has been set up to help with Kyle's treatment. To find out more visit www.gofundme.com/makekylesmile.
