A WORRIED father is warning other parents to be on the alert after a stranger followed and chased after his 13-year-old daughter in Bolton.

She was walking along Crompton Way, from Bury Road, with her friend, also aged 13, at about 10pm on Sunday.

He said they saw a man, in his 40s or 50s, who said hello and winked at his daughter.

They carried on walking to the traffic lights at the junction of Crompton Way and Thicketford Road when they turned around and saw him again.

The girl's father said: "My daughter's friend said run for it.

"She ran up Crompton Way, towards her house, and my daughter ran towards home — running up Thicketford Road.

"The man was running after my daughter. She saw a light on and knocked on the door. Before the lady came to the door, the man ran back off from the direction he came from.

"The lady rang me up and I went to get her."

The girls have been left shaken by the incident, which has been reported to police.

The man is described as being white, with a dirty face, about 6ft, with brown, shoulder-length hair and wearing a beige flat cap and a khaki green knee-length jacket.

Police said they received a report of two teenage girls being followed on Crompton Way at about 10pm on Sunday.

Officers carried out enquiries and no arrests have been made.

Anyone with any information should call police on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
