IT was a yes for the lads from Bolton when they appeared on The X Factor.

Five piece boyband Yes Lad impressed the judges and particularly caught the eye of music tycoon Simon Cowell.

Performing a harmonious rendition of Justin Timberlake’s Can’t Stop The Feeling, the band lived up to their name, receiving a big 'yes' from the panel on Saturday night's show.

Members Cian Gleeson, aged 19 of Horwich, Luke Robin Gregory, aged 21 from Bolton, Sonny Jake Hardman, aged 19, of Atherton, Lewis Maxwell, aged 16, of Liverpool and Joel Healy, aged 19, from Salford, particularly impressed Mr Cowell, who said he loved that the boys had “brought their own fan club” to the audition.

The boys, who were initially known as Salford Lads Club, are the latest group to be taken under the wing of music mogul Nigel Martin-Smith, who formed Take That.

Nicknamed ‘the leader’ of the group, Cian told the judges how they quit their jobs to make their break into the music industry.

Cian said: “The first time we sang we were in Joel’s bedroom.

“It was just really easy for us to get along and we just rehearsed, rehearsed, rehearsed, gave up our jobs, Lewis had just finished school and we thought let’s just go for it.”

After their audition Simon Cowell said: “I thought the performance was good, there were times when the vocals were a bit dodgy.

“But for me, there was one star. I’m not going to say who it is.”

Bolton nightclub worker brings The X Factor judges to tears with heartbreaking song about late brother

However, judge Nicole Sherzinger, who called the group 'sweet as pie' and 'so cute' said: “I don’t feel like there’s any weak links in the group.”

Yes Lad were not the only Bolton act to be a hit with the X Factor judges though, with 19-year-old Christian Burrows reducing the panel to tears with his performance on the same night.

Christian, who works at Bolton nightclub Level, bowled the panel over with his own song Thunder Buddy, written in tribute to his brother who died of cot death at just three months old.

The former Thornleigh Sixth Form student will next perform at the Boot Camp stage, as will Yes Lad, to battle it out for a place in the live shows.
