A BOLTON man has been banned from attending football matches for three years after causing trouble on a match day.
Michael Broughton, aged 24, of Longden Road, was spotted by police trying to cause trouble on at least two occasions on the same day of a Manchester United game.
Broughton appeared before Salford magistrates and admitted using racially aggravated abuse to cause others to fear that violence would be used against them.
He was given an 18-month conditional discharge and the banning order, which prevents him from entering Manchester city centre or the area around Old Trafford when United are playing at home.
The offence took place near Old Trafford as Manchester United were supposed to play Bournemouth in a Premier League game on May 15.
However, the match had to be postponed until two days later after a ‘suspicious package’ was found inside the stadium.
It later emerged a security firm had accidentally left the package there after a training day.
