ACTRESS Maxine Peake has pledged her support for a campaign against Government cuts.

The Bolton-based star is backing a Save Our NHS demonstration protest which is taking place in Bolton town centre on Saturday.

Maxine, who is from Westhoughton and is currently rehearsing her role in A Streetcar Named Desire at the Royal Exchange in Manchester, has spoken of her support for the campaign.

The BAFTA nominee said: “I would like to send my wholehearted support to the fight to save Bolton NHS.

“This action is criminal and inhuman. Royal Bolton is a wonderful hospital and I shudder to think what the consequences of these cuts will be.

“Hands off! We have to save jobs and save lives. I congratulate you all on your constant dedication to the struggle.”

The campaign is protesting against Government cuts which will leave a financial gap of £162 million for health and care in Bolton by 2020.

Taking place Between noon and 3pm adjacent next to the Fred Dibnah statue, Protesters will wave placards alongside a samba band between noon and 3pm next to the Fred Dibnah statue. They will also be urge people to sign a petition calling for the cuts to be stopped.

Bolton MPs Yasmin Qureshi and David Crausby will also be speaking at the event.

Campaigner Rosie Adamson-Clark said: “We know Maxine will always support the fight for the NHS and any kind of justice. Maxine has always supported Bolton issues and especially health provision, as she is a Bolton lass. Her family have been supported by the local hospital and medical services, and she is a proud Boltonian.

“She is a passionate and public voice for equality of every kind, but especially access to health, social care and justice for ordinary people. It is wonderful she has come on board to support the fight for retaining services at Royal Bolton Hospital and also putting her voice to fighting the £162 million cut under the Devo Manc locality plan.”
