A TEENAGER has suffered a serious leg injury in a motorbike crash in Bolton town centre.

The 19-year-old’s blue Keeway motorbike collided with a red Audi in Newport Street at 8.50am this morning, August 30.

An air ambulance landed in the car park of B&M Home Store, off Manchester Road and police blocked Newport Street at the junction with Great Moor Street.

The driver of the Audi, said she was travelling up Newport Street and went to turn right into Taylor Street when the crash happened.

The 38-year-old added: "All I remember is indicating right.

"The motorbike hit my driver's side and the window smashed.

"He went over the bonnet.

"I haven't heard how he is but I hope he is fine."

Craig Merrifield who works at Caritas Shop and Community Drop-in said: "When I came out the shop I saw a motorcylist on the ground and then saw the police and ambulances.

"We didn't see how it happened."

A spokesman for North West Ambulance service said: "The male patient was taken by air ambulance to Royal Preston Hospital.

"He had suffered a major trauma and had injured his leg and severely injured his toe."

Police are investigating the crash and have asked for any witnesses to contact 101 or Crime Stoppers on 0800 555 111.
