AN application for a town-centre chip shop has been submitted.

The plan for the vacant former RSPCA building in St George’s Road, Bolton, is a resubmission of an application that was refused earlier this year.

Bolton Council originally said no to the application in July on the basis of the detrimental effect it would have on nearby residents. It was also turned down because it would result in there being three similar shops within 50 metres of the application site.

Applicants Sarah and Jonathon Barker-Smith said in their planning statement that the policy referenced in the decision notice was superseded many years ago and consequently should not attract any weight in the decision-making process.

The shop would be located at 205 St George’s Road and would be open from 11.30am until 11.30pm seven days a week. It would create two full-time and two part-time positions.

The application can be viewed on Bolton Council’s website under reference 97252/16.

A decision is expected to be made by a council officer under delegated powers.
