AN ASIAN wedding venue could be forced to close after neighbours complained about the noise from drummers welcoming the bride and groom.

Al Hira Banqueting Hall in Mossfield Road, Farnworth, hosts about 30 celebrations, including weddings, each year in what used to be Dixon Green Labour Club.

The club closed in early 2013 and Al Hira began using it as a function suite in August, 2014, employing 27 part-time and three full-time workers.

The company received Bolton Council's permission to extend the upper floor, but its bosses did not think they needed 'change of use' permission.

This was because, they said, the function suite would affect neighbours less than the Labour club as there would be no alcohol on sale and opening hours were shorter.

However, the function suite has caused problems with parking and noise from the drums.

A report from Al Hira to the council said: "The first event was in August, 2014 and, since then, there have been around 60 weddings and gatherings.

"There were some issues with regards to parking initially, but the applicant enlarged the parking area to the rear of the building to provide up to 40 more off-road parking spaces.

"This increase in popularity of the venue and the vibrancy of the events has led to recent complaints from local residents with regards to noise nuisance, when the bride and groom are 'drummed' into the venue.

"This is a traditional activity and is only carried out for a short time at the beginning of the wedding, usually in the afternoon or early evening.

"The complaints have brought to light the technical lack of change of use and, in response to request from (the council), this application has been prepared."

Now, the firm has asked the local authority for retrospective permission for the change of use of the building.

If the council refuses permission, the hall could be forced to close.

The report adds: "The applicant renovated the building and invested a great deal of time and money in creating a modern and attractive venue for their events business."

The council has started a public consultation and is set to make a decision by October 31.
