MORE than 60 people journeyed through the night from the coast to Bolton in a 16-hour fundraising challenge.
The intrepid walkers set off from Blackpool on Saturday night and travelled on foot to Bolton in aid of Donate £1 for Dementia.
Our campaign was launched in partnership with Bolton NHS Charitable Fund to raise £200,000 for dementia-friendly facilities at the Royal Bolton Hospital.
Supervised by support vehicles, they were accompanied by two giant £1 coins to help raise awareness of their good cause.
Andy Lee, fundraiser for Bolton NHS Foundation Trust, took part in the challenge along with colleagues from the hospital, friends, families and volunteers.
He said: “I was so impressed by the people who took part and their resilience all the way to the finish because it was an extremely long way.
“The atmosphere was brilliant with everyone helping each other along and supporting each other, it was really go to see.
“All along the way, even on quite dark road, we had taxi drivers pulling up with offers of donations — in the end we were £2 off £200 just raised along the way!
“I’m so proud of every single person who took part in the event.”
Walkers set off from Blackpool’s Solaris Centre in the South Promenade at 11pm with Bolton FM cheering them off.
The group then travelled south and towards Chorley and the A6, arriving at the Royal Bolton Hospital.
