YOUNG musicians had every reason to blow their own trumpet after entertaining an 100 strong audience and some of the world’s leading players.

The Create Boltones, formed last April, is one of the newest bands to taken centre stage in Bolton’s thriving music scene.

It was established by CreateBolton, a local Christian charity, based in Claremont House, to give young people with learning disability or difficulty the opportunity to learn to play brass instruments of percussion.

On Saturday night, the band, made up of players aged between 16 and 25, staged their second annual Brass Explosion in Claremont Church. The musicians were led by musical director Richard Evans, one of the country’s top conductors. Supporting acts included some of the best brass band players in the country, including musicians who play for bands such as Fodens and Black Dye. So successful was the concert, that Create Boltones are now planning to stage a festive concert this Christmas.

Andrew Kilpatrick, lead officer, said: “The concert was a fundraiser to help us raise our profile, but also to generate funds to help us purchase more instruments as the band grows, we need more instruments. “The concert was attended by over 100 people and raised just short of £1000 and we are absolutely blown away (sorry for the pun) by the support the Boltones are receiving.”

He added: “The musicians were tremendous.”
