DRIVER

A MAN has appeared in court after driving at 72mph in a 40mph zone.

Edward Uduji, aged 33, of Hartherleigh Walk, Darcy Lever, admitted to Salford magistrates that he broke the speed limit on the East Lancashire Road on May 12.

He was ordered to pay £349 in fines and court costs and was given six penalty points.

SWORD

A MAN has been cleared of attacking a dog with a samurai sword after magistrates decided he could have done it in self-defence.

Jordan Thomasson, aged 24, of Alexander Road, Walkden, was charged with striking a German shepherd called Kaiser on the head on August 15.

He pleaded not guilty at Salford Magistrates Court and was cleared of any wrongdoing after the bench said they were not satisfied beyond a reasonable doubt that his actions were done to cause suffering rather than to prevent attack by the animal.

Shoplifter

A SERIAL shoplifter who made off with grocery items from ASDA has been jailed.

Stacey Haslam, aged 30, of no fixed address, admitted carrying out the theft of items worth £39.57 from the St Helens Road, Daubhill, supermarket on July 26.

She committed the offence in breach of a number of suspended jail sentences and a conditional discharge imposed for the theft of items from Bolton's TK Maxx store, four separate thefts of goods from WH Smith in Bolton and the theft of ham and corn beef tins from B&M Bargains in Bolton.

Haslam was sentenced to a total of 14 weeks in prison at Bolton Magistrates' Court.

MOTORING

A WOMAN has been banned from driving for six months after committing three motoring offences.

Eleanor Stretch, aged 42, of Captain Lees Road, Westhougton, was asked by police on December 28 last year and on January 4 and January 13 this year to tell police who was driving a Mini Cooper at the time of an alleged offence, but did not do so.

She was convicted at Salford Magistrates Court of three counts of failing to provide information to police.

Stretch must also pay £700 fines and £170 court costs.

DRUGS

A COMMUNITY order and a fine was given to a man found with cocaine.

Gary Booth, of Darwen Road, Bromley Cross, admitted possessing the class A drug on August 14.

He received a six-month community order from Bolton Magistrates' Court that includes a rehabilitation requirement.

The 48-year-old was fined £40 and ordered to pay a victim surcharge of £85 and court costs of £85.

THEFT

NIGHT burglar Dean McEvilly was jailed for 18 weeks for stealing computer equipment worth £5,040 from Goodwin Barrett, a mis-sold investment and pensions claims firm, based at Evans Business Centre in Manchester Road, Bolton, on or about August 31.

MOTORIST

A MOTORIST led police on a high-speed pursuit in a built-up area during which he ignored a red light.

Lee Thomas, aged 30, of Pole Street, Bolton, admitted dangerous driving in Salford, no licence, no insurance, failing to give a specimen and failing to stop.

Bolton Magistrates' Court sentenced the Peugeot driver to four months' jail and a four years and three months' driving ban.

DRIVER

MAREK Bihary, aged 36, of Lever Edge Lane, Great Lever, has been banned from driving for six months after being convicted at Salford Magistrates Court that he drove a Vauxhall Vectra in Lever Edge Lane on May 29 without a licence or insurance.
He must also pay £976 in fines and court costs.

PENALTY

ISTVAN Balog, aged 61, of Valpy Avenue, Hall i' th' Wood, has been given six penalty points and ordered to pay £811 in fines and court costs after being convicted at Salford magistrates of failing to tell police on June 9 who was driving a Mercedes when an alleged offence took place.

SPEEDING

A SPEEDING motorist has been given three penalty points and ordered to pay £327 in fines and court costs.
Mohammed Ashraf, aged 69, of Croston Street, Rumworth, was convicted at Salford Magistrates Court of driving a Mazda in Broad Street, Salford, at 53mph in a 40mph zone on February 24.
