A MOTORIST crashed into a wall at high speed after allegedly jumping a red light.

The Jaguar XJ6 collided with a raised grassy patch at the junction of Higher Dunscar and Blackburn Road in Egerton Tuesday evening.

Witness Jo Ashley said: "Myself and my partner were driving home from Manchester at around 11.15pm through Bolton via Blackburn Road A666.

"We were just reaching Egerton when a light blue Jaguar XJ6 overtook five cars behind me, flying about 70 or 75mph, overtaking me at the bend at the crossroads of Blackburn Road and Darwen Road lights.

"We stopped at the lights and he went through on red.

"A few seconds later we heard a huge bang.

"As we proceeded on and followed bend around, the car had taken the corner at high speed and crashed and mounted the high wall."

Ms Ashley said the car was stuck on the wall and she and her partner pulled over to the check on the man before he ran off, abandoning the vehicle.

A spokesman for Greater Manchester Police said: "We were called at shortly before 11.15pm to reports of a road traffic collision in which a Jaguar had collided with a wall.

"Nobody was arrested and no other parties were involved."
