COMMUNITIES came together to enjoy a friendly afternoon of sport on Saturday.

Bolton Indian Sports Club played host to a cricket and rounders tournament organised by Bolton Interfaith Council in a bid to unite people from diverse backgrounds.

Around 50 people came to take part in the events, including representatives from Bolton Hindu Forum, Bolton Christian Community Cohesion, and Bolton Council of Mosques.

As well as the sporting action, there were also a variety of other family-friendly activities, including face painting, calligraphy, and a bouncy castle.

Chan Parmar, of Bolton Interfaith Council, said: "We held one of these before, in 2014, but this time it is quite a different concept.

"It rained two years ago as well, which was a real shame because there were a lot of people who came down.

"What is great about this year is that so many of the people have come to participate in the cricket and rounders matches.

"The whole idea is to bring people from different communities together, and when you see them out there enjoying themselves it is a wonderful thing.

"Strengthening our community relations has to be a gradual process but we hope that days like this can do something to help move it along."

All the proceeds raised from activities and stalls set up at the club, in Hacken Lane, will be donated to Bolton Hospice.

Bolton Interfaith Council will also be hosting a 'Prayers for World Peace' event on November 3, at the Friends Meeting House, followed by a series of event during national interfaith week, from November 13 to 20.
