THE popstar dream came to the end of the road for two of Bolton’s X Factor contestants this weekend.

Boyband Yes Lad and Christian Burrows crashed out of the competition at the judges houses stage.

Christian, aged 19, was left in tears on Saturday nights show after mentor Nicole Scherzinger told him she could not take him through to the live shows.

The teenager, a barman in nightclub Level in Bolton, impressed judges at his first audition with a self penned song, Thunder Buddy, in tribute to his two-month-old brother, who died of cot death.

The family celebrated what would have been his birthday on October 1.

But his dreams were shattered after he was told he had not made it through to the next stage of the competition after his performances in Nice, of How to Save a Life by The Fray and I Won’t Let Go by Rascal Flatts.

Speaking exclusively to The Bolton News Christian said the show was the “greatest experience of his life”.

He added: “I’ve met some amazing friends that I will keep for the rest of my life.

“What is meant to be will be.

“Sometimes in life you get knocked back but it is about getting back up.

“I will never give up music, it is in my blood.

“I’ll be back.”

Mum Nichola, who taught her son to sing, said she “couldn’t be prouder” of her son.

She added: “He just wanted to get in front of the judges and be noticed so he could get a kick start to live his dream.

“For me what Christian has achieved is pretty unprecedented for The X Factor.

“He just wanted to make everyone proud of him, I couldn’t be prouder if he had gone on and won it.

“He’s touched a lot of people all over the world and it’s been an amazing journey for him.

“He has continued to write and written some awesome songs from his experience, which he will share with the people who have given him their support.”

Five-piece group Yes Lad were also left devastated on Friday night when mentor Louis Walsh told them they had failed to get through to the live shows.

Members Cian Gleeson, of Horwich, Luke Gregory of Bolton, Sonny Hardman of Atherton, Joel Healy and Lewis Maxwell were given an 11-hour reprieve, last week, after they were chosen as the group category wildcard entry.

But their chances ran out after their performance of Michael Jackson’s Don’t Stop ‘til You Get Enough was not enough to wow the judges and the band was branded “corny” by Louis’ on hand helper Alisha Dixon.
