A SPORTS car ended up on its roof in the middle of the road after it clipped a skip and flipped over.

The grey Mazda MX5 soft-top overturned after hitting the yellow skip which was parked in the road next to the kerb.

The incident happened in The Hoskers, Westhoughton, at just after 7.30am today.

Greater Manchester Police said the driver suffered only minor injuries and managed to climb out of the overturned car himself before officers arrived.

A recovery truck was able to right the Mazda and photographs showed the two-door convertible had suffered damage down the right hand rear wheel arch, bodywork and door.

The North West Ambulance Service confirmed an ambulance and a rapid response vehicle were sent to the accident.
Paramedics found the male driver conscious and having sustained unspecified minor injuries.

He was not taken to hospital.

Police are not investigating the incident as a crime and it has been recorded as a ‘damage only’ collision.

It is not clear what the skip was being used for.
