THREE days of folk fun will be bringing a big knees-up to Bolton this weekend.

The sixth Edgworth Folk Festival will see a range of different musicians performing at the home of the Bromley Cross Folk Club.

Running from Friday to Saturday at the Barlow in Edgworth, there will be a mixture of concerts, displays, workshops and dance which will all being raising funds for the venue.

The event has steadily been growing in size over the years and organisers are looking forward to welcoming folk fans to the town.

Chairman Brian Few said: “It started off as one day and over the years we’ve it on to a three day event.

“It’s a full weekend with lots of different things going on, particulalry a programme of workshops with anything from singing, writing and playing different instruments.

“An audience has definitely built up as we welcome quite a few major folk artists on a monthly basis. We even have visitors as far away as Yorkshire, when we let them cross the border! And we have people coming in caravans.

“All the artists and workshop people give their services for free as we fundraise for the Barlow which is run by volunteers.”

Artists this year include Trio Threlfall, Bandersnatch, Nick Dow, Mark Dowding Tre Cope, Yesterday’s Men, Heather McNeill, Chorley Cakes, Chris Rogan, Ukes Like Us, Dave and Helen Howard and Sue Van Gaalen.

Mr Frew added: “Duncan McFarlane came a couple a years ago and was a big success so we are very pleased to welcome him back this year.

“We’ve even gone a bit international this year and are welcoming Dror Kessler from Israel.”

A ceilidh lead by The Everready Band will kick off events on Friday, featuring caller Barabara Snape, displays and singaround.

On Saturday and Sunday visitors can enjoy concerts, music sessions, singarounds, displays, instrument workshops and folk club.

There will also be cafe and real ale bar, with tickets available for day, evening and weekend.
