A WOMAN was taken to hospital after being hit by a car in Horwich.

Paramedics were called to the junction of Chorley New Road and Beatrice Street at just after 8pm on Saturday after receiving reports of collision involving a Toyota Aygo.

The woman, who is in her 70s, was taken to Salford Royal for treatment and will be allowed to return home today.

Firefighters based at Bolton North and Farnworth fire stations were called to the scene as a precaution.

A Fire Service spokesman said: "The woman was injured, but we're not sure at this stage what the extent of her injuries is.

"The driver remained at the scene of the collision. The car was damaged but was not written off."

A Police spokesman said: "Fortunately, the woman's injuries were not life threatening, but she was kept in hospital overnight for observation.

"The road was blocked off for a short while, so emergency services could work at the scene, but it opened up again later on Saturday night."
