A BURGLARY victim has released footage of a man he claims stole sets of keys from his home.

The thief struck in Albert Road, Heaton, at 3.50am on Friday.

And now teacher Jonathan Heywood has shared a video in the hope someone will identify the man he believes is the culprit to police.

He said: “I was in bed and the alarm went off. It wouldn’t reset, so I went downstairs and found the front door open.

“He had jemmied it open and smashed the window in the process. He took two sets of car keys and a set of house keys.

“On his way out he tried to lock me in, but must have panicked and locked the door before it was in the closed position.”

The man — dressed all in black and wearing gloves — is believed to have stolen the house keys and sets of keys for a Toyota Aygo and Honda CR-V from a wooden table but he did not drive off with the cars.

Mr Heywood said: “He had enough time to take one of them. Perhaps he panicked.

“I would like the keys back because I have been quoted £955 to change the locks on one of the cars that is only worth £3,000.

“I couldn’t get to work and it took all day to sort out the broken front door.”

Mr Heywood was left hundreds of pounds out of pocket for the services of an emergency locksmith and to have the second car’s keys re-coded.

Police based at Astley Bridge Police Station are investigating the burglary and Mr Heywood uploaded the video to social media.

Mr Heywood said: “I would like to let other people know what’s going on.

“I have heard there have been three other houses nearby that have been done like this.

“It seems to becoming quite a frequent occurrence.”
