A FRUSTRATED resident has said anti-social behaviour has become so commonplace on his estate that it is now “like a slum”.

The man said he felt the Oldhams Estate in Sharples had degenerated to such a degree since he moved in that he was considering, with a heavy heart, leaving the area.

He said: “It seems to be getting really bad with anti-social behaviour.

“The off-road biking has been going for seven-plus years.

“Nothing had really changed. I think it’s actually got worse.

“It’s the same group of youths who started off with mini motos and gone on to stealing cars and bikes from other areas and bringing them onto the estate.

“It’s every week. It never ends.

“I’m concerned they’re going to end up killing somebody because there’s quite a lot of kids who play out and the the off-road bikers come flying down the street in the pitch black with no lights on.

“I saw them two of them recently riding down the middle of Belmont Road.

“Nothing seems to get done about it.

“The state of the park is an absolute disgrace and they have churned it up doing doughnuts.

“They obviously just don’t care about authority.”

He was saddened to see yet more anti-social behaviour when waste roofing material include smashed tiles was fly-tipped in Moss Lea near to Barlow Park and the rear entrance to Smithills Farm overnight between Saturday and Sunday.

He said: “They must have dumped it with a tipper because it’s been neatly tipped in a big pile. With it being near a park, I couldn’t understand the mentality of it.”

It followed another pile of rubbish containing what he thinks is asbestos from roof edging being abandoned several weeks ago.

He said: “There’s been three major fly-tips and a burned-out car and the whole area is strewn with litter. On street corners there’s bags of rubbish dumped. “This is a nice area and all of this is bringing the area down.

“The whole area has become like a slum.”

He wants to rally fellow families on the estate to fight back against the collective nuisances and restore some neighbourly pride.

He said: “There’s lots of people around here and I want to make them aware and to encourage them to report anti-social behaviour and fly-tipping.”

Bolton Council confirmed Moss Lea is an unadopted road and so it is not its responsibility to clear waste.
