TWO people have been taken to hospital after a crash at a busy roundabout this afternoon.

Emergency services were called to the scene in Bolton Road, Kearsley, at the A666 roundabout, at 2.38pm.

A police spokesman confirmed that the crash involved a Skoda Superb and a Vauxhall Corsa.

One of the drivers is thought to have become trapped in their car after the accident.

Ambulances and fire crews were also in attendance.

A North West Ambulance Service spokesman confirmed it sent four ambulances to the scene and the air ambulance.

"Two patients were taken to Royal Bolton Hospital by land, but we do not know the extent of their injuries at this stage," he added.

The vehicles have been removed from the scene and the ambulances and air ambulance have left.

The crash happened outside the house of Carl Mort, who lives in Bolton Road.

The 35-year-old said he came out of his house to see what was going on when he heard the commotion outside.

He said he did not see the crash as it happened but was told by eye-witness that a silver car came from the southbound side of St Peter’s Way (A666) and turned on to Bolton Road.

It then veered across on to the wrong side of the road and hit a car approaching the roundabout from the other direction.

“There were several ambulances and I was told the helicopter arrived, which you don’t see every day,” said Mr Mort.

“It looked like a pretty serious one.”

Police later confirmed that the two casualties had sustained minor injuries.
