LITTLE and big kids alike were queuing up early on Saturday morning to get inside Bolton's newest store.

The Entertainer toy shop officially opened its doors to customers with a grand day of events.

But before eager shoppers could get to the shelves, Market Place Shopping Centre's new arrival organised a special treat.

Working with When You Wish Upon a Star, a charity which plans events for children living with a life-threatening illness, two youngsters got the chance to take part in a trolley dash around the shop.

The pair each had one minute to dash round and pick up as many toys as possible, which they then got to keep.

Nine-year-old Kaila McCrea, from Stockport, and eight-year-old Taylor Banks, from Leigh, managed to stack up their trolleys with more than £725 of toys.

Taylor, who is diabetic and suffers from a rare insulin allergy, came to the event following six months in hospital.

REVEALED: Top 5 toys for Christmas

Mum Gemma Westwell said: "It is nice to do something normal for a little while. He has been really looking forward to today, we've even done little trolley dashes at home to get used to it.

"He's been very excited, all he's wanted is Nerf guns."

Kaila's mum Sareena Ali added: "She has cystic fibrosis and has just had two weeks in hospital.

"She was definitely after Power Rangers, she thinks of herself as a super hero like them because she has to fight a lot. She is my hero.

"It is too many toys for one child so we will be sharing some with other children at the charity."

The toyshop is already proving a popular addition to the town and, within 24 hours, the store had already sold out of the most sought-after Christmas present, Hatchimals.

Store manager David Bracegirdle said: "We had six and sold them all just after we opened, we were the last shop in the company to have them in stock.

"We are hoping to get some more in before Christmas but some people buy them online so they don't even reach the shop floor. We are limiting sales to two per customer though.

"Since Thursday it has been going really well, we are very pleased."

For the grand opening, shoppers were welcomed by Lego characters, face painters and balloon modellers.

The first 30 people through the door also took part in a gift voucher lucky-dip with a chance to win £100 to spend in-store.

Ready and waiting outside was Shirley Orrell, aged 55, from Great Lever.

She said: "I'm shopping for my grandchildren. I've got two and another on the way.

"I'm quite excited about it, it's not just for kids, I love a good toy shop too."
