A BREIGHTMET Post Office is on the move, just down the road.

Plans have been laid out for the launch of a new Top O’th Brow service in New Lane.

Launching at 1pm on November 7, it will be open for longer by an extra 40 hours and 30 minutes a week.

The current Top O’th Brow Post Office is next door to the new branch at the A S Store and will close at 12.30pm on Saturday, November 5, for the move will take place.

Regional Manager Suzanne Richardson said: “We are making it easier for customers to get their cash, send and collect their mail and do their banking because we know how important these services are to local residents.

“We are confident that this vibrant new-style Post Office at the heart of the local community will meet customer needs. This modernisation is part of a major investment programme, the largest in the history of the Post Office.”

The new branch will open Monday to Saturday, from 9am - 5.30pm, with selected Post Office products and services available from the retail counter outside of the hours but during shop opening hours, from 7.30am - 9am, and then from Monday to Saturday, 5.30pm - 8pm, and from 8.30am - 8pm on Sunday.

It is hoped the additional hours will make the branch more convenient, as customers will now have more choice of times to visit with earlier opening and service on Saturday afternoon and Sunday.

During the switch-over Post Office services may be accessed from other branches including Castle Hill Post Office, in Tonge Moor Road.

The Post Office also confirmed that the current Post Master wanted to leave the role, enabling the move to take place.

The new branch will feature three serving positions, two modern screened positions and a combi-counter, where the Post Office terminal will sit alongside the retail till.

It has been designed to ensure easy access with level access and a wide door at the entrance, and space for a wheelchair to move around the store.

There will also be a hearing loop at the counter and low level facility. All staff will be trained to meet Post Office professional standards for service and security.

Residents and small business customers will be able to access a range of Post Office services, including Special Delivery, Local Collect, home shopping returns, online banking cash deposits and withdrawals.

Car tax renewal and a selection of popular On-Demand holiday currencies will also be added.

Other services include withdrawals using a Post Office Card Account, sending funds abroad using Moneygram, and customers can pay bills, pre-order travel money, apply for travel insurance and top up mobile phones.
