CALENDAR favourite Ironkids is set to be the biggest global event of its kind, when it returns in 2017.

Entries will open tomorrow at 9am, for the Bolton race, which will be held on July 15, 2017.

For the last two years 2,500 children have competed and families are advised to enter early to avoid disappointment as organisers expect all places to be filled quickly.

The main Ironman event – a gruelling 140.6mile triathlon – takes place in and around Bolton the following day and limited places are still available.

Bolton Council’s Cabinet Member for Culture and Youth, Councillor John Byrne, said: “Ironkids is always a brilliant event, which grows in popularity each year.

“Children love it and come back year on year to do it and who knows, it could be the making of our future Ironman UK athletes.”

Ironkids is open to children aged three to 14 and there are different distance races, depending on the child’s school year or age.

Ironman UK Race Director, Sam Brawn, said: “Ironkids is always a spectacular way to kick start the Ironman race weekend in Bolton.

To enter Ironkids, parents or guardians need to complete an entry form at: www.ironkids.co.uk or contact 01865 596266.

The fee is £3 per child.
