A FATAL crash has closed all three lanes of the A580 East Lancs Road heading out of Salford towards both the slip road for the A666 and M61 and Walkden.

Police were called out at 6.35am to reports of a road traffic collision involving three cars on the westbound A580 between Worsley Road and the Worsley Braided Interchange.

A man aged 70 was taken to hospital with serious condition but was pronounced dead at hospital.

Another patient, whose age and gender are unknown, suffered minor chest inuries.

Two of the cars involved were both Nissan Primeiras and the third vehicle's make and model has not been recorded by the police at this stage.

It is believe the crash happened near Albert's Worsley restaurant and bar.

The East Lancs Road was shut westbound at Worsley Road and Broadbent Street in Swinton and traffic was being diverted around it. The westbound carriageway has now reopened.

The eastbound dual carriageway towards Salford and Manchester remained open during the incident.
