BALACLAVA-clad men carrying weapons targeted a shop-owner while he was carrying the takings from his shop.

The 42-year-old shop-owner was in Cleggs Lane, Little Hulton, with the money, when two men wearing balaclavas and carrying a bat and a machete got out of a white car and approached him.

The victim ran into a nearby chip shop and the two men ran back to their car and fled.

The car was later found burnt out on Falcon Drive.

Police are appealing for witnesses and have released CCTV images of a man they want to speak to in connection with the incident, which occurred shortly before 11.50am on Monday, October 3.

Detective Sergeant Mark Toker of GMP’s Salford Borough said: “These men brazenly targeted a shop-owner in the middle of the day, brandishing weapons, and it was fortunate that he was not hurt.

“The man in the CCTV image is wearing a balaclava, but I’m hoping it may jog someone’s memory and I would urge you to get in touch if you have any information.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact police on 101 quoting incident number 794 of 03/10/16, or the independent charity Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
