EIGHT supporters were arrested during Bolton Wanderers’ televised derby win over Bury.

Despite police pleas for peace, officers had to take some fans into custody during the match at Bury’s Gigg Lane stadium although the level of disorder was not as bad as past fixtures.

One man was arrested on suspicion of affray, two for pitch encroachment, one for throwing coins, one for being drunk and disorderly, one for a racially aggravated public order offence, one for possession of cannabis and one for an assault causing actual bodily harm in which a firework or flare was thrown onto the pitch.

Six or seven Bolton fans invaded the pitch after Bolton’s first goal and there was a disturbance when a pocket of away fans in the home end celebrated.

Two blue ‘smoke bombs’ were lobbed onto the grass and police had form a cordon in front of a portion of one of the stands when Bury fans allegedly started to verbally abuse Bolton left back Andy Taylor.

The game, broadcast live on Sky Sports, saw the Whites secure a 2-0 victory thanks to two penalties both won and scored by Zach Clough.
