A FORMER town centre pub cannot be turned into flats as living conditions would be of poor quality, Bolton Council has ruled.
Developers want to turn The Gypsy’s Tent, on the corner of Spa Road and Marsden Road, into seven flats — two studio flats, four one-bedroom flats and one two-bedroom flat.
In a decision notice, the council said: “The proposed development would result in a cramped type of housing layout of a form which is not in short supply in Bolton town centre.
“It is lacking in internal and external space, which would result in poor-quality living conditions for occupants, contrary to council policy.”
The applicants have the right to appeal.
