A CAMPER van visited Bolton to raise awareness about the harm caused by daytime alcohol adverts seen by children.
The specially adapted VW camper van welcomed passers-by at Victoria Square Market for a cup of tea and a chat, during which they saw alcohol ads, especially those aired during popular sporting events. Viewers were able to comment on what they had seen and about the issue of alcohol advertising in general.
The roadshow was organised by Manchester-based social enterprise Healthier Futures on behalf of Greater Manchester local authorities who say they are trying to address the impact of alcohol marketing and advertising on children.
Latest figures for Bolton show that alcohol led to 134 deaths in 2014 and cost the borough’s economy £107million in 2013.
Deputy leader of Bolton Council, Councillor Linda Thomas, said: “We are keen to work with our partners to protect the health of our residents.”
