FAMILIES were advised on how they can stay safe and warm this winter at a special day in the town centre yesterday.

The free event was organised by Bolton Council and partners to demonstrate practical things people can do to prepare themselves for the cold weather. over the coming months. Youngsters were able to test out their concentration skills with a driver simulation vehicle, meet search and rescue dogs, and take a look around a fire engine.

Help and information was also available about keeping warm and saving money on energy bills, maintaining vehicles, eating healthily on a budget, and home and personal security.

Among the groups attending were Bolton Mountain Rescue Team, the British Red Cross, the Environment Agency, and the Salvation Army.
