A CORONER ruled a motorcyclist died as a result of a road traffic collision after he crashed into the back of a car at high speed.

Shaun Watkinson was riding his BMW S1000 along Mountain Road on the Isle of Man on June 2 when he was flung from the bike and collided with the rear of a Citroen C4 being driven by a local man at around 6.55am.

He was travelling along roads that make up part of the Isle of Man TT course on race days and do not have speed limits during the racing festival.

Mr Watkinson died in hospital of injuries sustained in the crash and a post-mortem examination showed the father-of-three, who worked as a technical project manager at security firm G4S, died from massive blunt force trauma, predominantly to his head and thorax.

The tragedy struck while the 55-year-old — who was Westhoughton born and bred and lived with his family in Wharfedale in the town — was enjoying a motorbiking holiday with nine friends, collectively nicknamed The Wild Dogs and all from the Bolton area.

A documentary inquest took place at Bolton Coroner's Court when area coroner Alan Walsh recorded the conclusion Mr Watkinson died of a result of a road traffic collision.

It was the second inquest into Mr Watkinson's death because, due to the various jurisdictions involved, there had be an inquest on the Isle of Man.

That hearing happened last month when evidence showed Mr Watkinson had been riding at speeds of around 150mph before the impact and the Isle of Man's coroner of inquests John Needham recorded a verdict of accidental death.
